Beadary is an independent reference site for fuse bead crafters. It publishes color charts for Perler, Hama and Diamond Dotz, a five-series Artkal beads color chart, a free bead pattern maker, and an Artkal ↔ Perler converter. Everything is free to use and runs in the browser — there is no account, no upload step, and no image leaves your device.

Why this exists

The same bead line is frequently published with different numbers in different places. Artkal’s shop currently lists 202 identities in the C series while its downloadable chart still says 197; the official R page reports one total in its heading and another in its body. Perler and Hama retire and rename colors without reissuing every chart. Most of the color tables circulating online are screenshots of screenshots, with no date and no source, so a crafter comparing two of them has no way to tell which one is stale.

Beadary was built to fix the citation problem rather than to publish yet another table. Every color identity is tied to the source that established it and the date it was checked, so a disagreement between two catalogs can be shown instead of silently averaged away.

Who runs Beadary

Beadary is a one-person independent project. There is no company behind it, no outside funding, and no paid tier. The color data, the tools, the writing and the code are all produced in-house rather than syndicated or generated from another site’s tables.

That matters for a reference site, because it tells you where to aim a correction. Everything here has one author, so there is one inbox for disagreements: contact@beadary.com.

Where the data comes from and how it is checked

Color data lives in a versioned palette library, not in page markup. Each palette records its sources and a verification date, and automated tests run against expected code counts, catalog statuses and missing values whenever that data changes — so an update cannot quietly drop a color or promote an estimate into a measurement.

Manufacturer material — official colour charts, product PDFs and shop listings — establishes codes, names, product lines and catalog status. Screen values for browsing come from a fixed, checksummed snapshot of the open-source beadcolors dataset (MIT licensed), sampled from physical beads by the community. Those two layers are kept in separate fields and never merged, because they support different claims.

Every swatch carries one of three evidence levels: catalog identity (a code, name, product line and status established by a manufacturer source), screen reference (a measured, derived or community RGB value, with its provenance retained), and calculated match (a ranked color-distance suggestion, never a claim that two physical beads are interchangeable). The color accuracy guide explains what each level can and cannot prove.

Two limits are stated rather than hidden. No screen value can promise a physical color match — a monitor emits light while a bead reflects it, and lighting, production batch, finish and ironing all shift the result. And special finishes — transparent, glow, metallic, pearl, striped — are kept out of ordinary flat color matching, because a close HEX value says very little about how they actually look.

How the site is built

The pattern maker runs entirely in your browser. Image resizing, palette quantisation, dithering and bead matching all happen on your device using HTML Canvas — there is no upload step and no server round-trip, which is why the tool works the same whether your image is a personal photograph or a work file you would rather not send anywhere.

Colour matching uses CIEDE2000 perceptual distance in Lab space rather than raw RGB, because two colours with a small RGB gap can look obviously different to the eye and vice versa. Palette data is served as static JSON from Cloudflare R2 so a large catalog does not have to ship inside the page.

The site itself is built with Astro, Preact and Tailwind CSS, and deployed on Cloudflare Workers. Pages are static HTML by default; only the interactive tools load JavaScript.

What this site does not do

• It does not upload the images you open in the pattern maker — they stay in your browser.
• It does not run accounts, logins, or a user gallery. There is nothing to sign up for.
• It does not sell anything, and does not take affiliate commission on bead purchases.
• It is not affiliated with Perler, Hama, Artkal, Diamond Dotz, DMC or MARD.

Corrections

If a code, count, name or status here disagrees with something you can see on a package or an official listing, that is worth reporting — a printed package code outranks anything on this site. Corrections with a source link are applied to the palette data and change the chart’s verification date.
