FAQ

How accurate are the on-screen colors?

Screen values come from spectrophotometer measurements of real beads (via the open beadcolors project), verified against the official Perler catalog. Actual beads still vary by monitor, lighting, dye batch, and ironing. See the full Perler chart.

Which bead brands are covered?

Perler is live today, including discontinued codes. Hama, Artkal, and MARD charts — with cross-brand substitutes — are next on the roadmap.

When is the pattern maker coming?

It is in active development: upload an image, pick a brand and board size, and get a bead pattern with real color codes and bead counts. The color-matching engine behind the charts is already done.

Is Beadary free to use?

Yes — everything runs in your browser with no download or sign-up.

How do I report a wrong color or suggest a feature?

Email works best — corrections with a bead code and a photo are especially welcome.Email us

Perler color chart FAQ

Measurement details, catalog scope, matching thresholds, and the limits of representing physical beads on a screen.

How many Perler colors are included in this chart?

The chart logs 132 official Perler color codes: 124 colors currently sold on perler.com and 8 discontinued colors retained for older patterns and existing bead collections.Source: official Perler bead catalogSource data: beadcolors Perler CSV

How accurate are the on-screen Perler colors?

Screen values are community-measured references from the MIT-licensed beadcolors project, including spectrophotometer measurements of real Perler beads. Actual beads can still vary with monitor calibration, lighting, production batch, and ironing.Source: beadcolors projectMIT license

What does “pixel-ready solid” mean?

A pixel-ready solid is a currently sold, solid-finish bead with a stable measured screen value. There are 95 in this chart. Provisional 2026 colors and specialty finishes are listed separately because their screen values are estimated or cannot be represented by one flat color.Source catalog: official Perler colorsSource data: measured Perler CSV

How does the closest-color finder work?

The finder converts the entered screen color and every measured bead color to CIELAB, then ranks them with the CIEDE2000 perceptual distance formula. A ΔE below 3 reads as the same color, 3–8 is a workable substitute, and above 8 is a fallback.Source paper: CIEDE2000Implementation notes and test data

Why are the 2026 new-color values marked provisional?

Their values are fused from two independent estimates: calibrated official product photography and an independently measured community chart. Estimated error is about ΔE 3.5, so these entries are marked with an asterisk and will be replaced when direct measurements are available.Source: Perler 2026 announcementOfficial new arrivals

Why are specialty finishes excluded from color matching?

Translucent, glow, pearl, metallic, and striped beads change with light, background, and viewing angle. A single HEX value cannot represent those effects reliably, so their official codes remain in the chart but they are excluded from pixel matching.Source: Perler specialty color overview

How is the Perler catalog verified?

The list is checked against perler.com single-color 1,000-count and 6,000-count bags plus new arrivals; mixed bags are excluded. Codes no longer sold are marked discontinued. The catalog was last checked on August 30, 2026.Source catalog: 1,000ct bead bags6,000ct bead bagsNew arrivals
